Pre-Trial Conferences
f you wish to enter a Not Guilty plea without appearing in Court, your plea must be in writing & received prior to your scheduled initial appearance. If you enter a Not Guilty plea by mail, fax or email, provide your name, current mailing address, current telephone number & citation number.

Approximately, one month prior to your scheduled pre-trial date, you will receive a notice by mail at the address you provided the Court. The notice will contain the date and time of your pre-trial conference, as well as the name and telephone number of the City Prosecutor.

After receiving the notice, you may call the City Prosecutor anytime before your scheduled pre-trial conference to work out an agreement. However, if you cannot reach him prior to your pre-trial date, you must appear at the scheduled date & time.

Pre-Trial Conferences generally are held between 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday nights when Court is in session for adult initial appearances.

At the Pre-Trial Conference, you and the City Prosecutor will discuss the case and your respective positions. If the two of you reach an agreement on how to resolve your case, that is called a plea agreement. All plea agreements are prepared in writing. Both you and the City Attorney will receive a copy of the plea agreement. If no agreement is reached, a trial will be scheduled.

The Judge reviews all plea agreements & has the final authority to either accept or reject the plea agreement. If the plea agreement is approved, you must follow the terms as ordered on the plea agreement. Those plea agreements which are rejected either are renegotiated or the case is scheduled for trial.
