Decorating for the holidays is always something I look forward to. I think it would be great to be able to sign your house up in a decorating contest. There is something magical/surreal about heading down a street with lots of decorated houses. A contest could encourage more people to decorate. Signing up could also make it easier for parents to decide where to take their kids. The holidays I'm thinking of specifically are Halloween (Trick or Treating), or Christmas (touring neighborhood lights). However, I think any holiday could qualify. People could vote for their favorite on a website or facebook page. Local businesses could provide gift certificates, and/or the winners could receive a yard sign like "2013 Halloween decorating winner".

Libraries offer awesome activities for kids that aren't yet in school. But those activities only occur M-F, during working hours.

Parents who don't stay at home with their kids have NO OPPORTUNITY for the learning and bonding that library programs offer. Very few libraries, or other places, offer any sort of recurring and free storytime/activities for toddlers and preschoolers on weekends and evenings.
How about getting something going for working families on weekdays after 5pm and on the weekends during the morning/early afternoon?
